Gerbera Daisy
General Information:
Often called Barberton daisy or Transvaal daisy, the Gerbera daisy is a tender perennial with deep roots. These daisies have dandelion-like leaves, in rosettes and are covered with down. The flowers grow on leafless 12-18 inch stems; the ray florets are long-lasting and 3-4 inches in size, in shades of white, yellow, red and all intermediate shades.
Use:
Tub plant for conservatory. Can be left to spread in summer in a warm spot outdoors, potted or garden use, blooms all summer! Great cut flower.
Soil:
Sandy loam with peat added. pH 7.5 Use deep pots and tubs, since the roots penetrate to a depth of 20 inches. Good drainage.
Fertilizer:
Fertilize every week, April thru August, with 5-10-10, or 15-30-15.
Water:
In Summer, water plenty without drying out. In winter let the plant dry slightly, and then water.
Light:
Likes a sunny spot. The Gerbera daisy makes a nice house plant if you have a window with lots of sun.
